Party leader says city the only major metro where a majority mandate was received

DA welcomes election of Geordin Hill-Lewis as Cape Town Mayor

18 November 2021

The DA welcomes the election of Geordin Hill-Lewis as the Mayor of Cape Town today.

The Party has full confidence in Mayor Hill-Lewis to lead the City and to continue to implement the DA’s mandate of clean and efficient governance and service delivery. Under the leadership of the DA, the City of Cape Town has built a reputation of getting things done and getting the basics right.

As Geordin has said many times in his campaign, now is the time to do more, and we have full confidence that he will continue to carry on the incredible work done by former Mayor Dan Plato in building local economic growth, bringing investment to the City and delivering services to all Cape Town communities.

Cape Town is the only major metro-municipality in the country where a political party received an outright majority from voters to implement its mandate. It is the only major metro where a council meeting has thus far been held and where the will of the people can now be enacted.

It is proof that when the DA gets a full mandate from voters, it hits the ground running to ensure continuous service delivery.

The DA wishes Mayor Hill-Lewis and his team well.
