DA welcomes Virgin Active's sacking of Tim Osrin

DA welcomes Virgin Active action against Tim Osrin

22 October 2014

The DA welcomes the decision by Virgin Active to terminate Tim Osrin's contract as coach and member of its clubs.

Violence against women, in any form and for any reason, is never acceptable.

It is reported that Tim Osrin violently attacked Cynthia Joni, a domestic worker from Khayelitsha, while on her way to work on 2 October in Cape Town (see Weekend Argus report).

He allegedly justified it by saying he believed her to be a prostitute.

In a country rife with violence against women, any violence against or abuse of women should be harshly condemned and severely prosecuted.

There can be no justification for hitting a woman.

We note that the matter is before a court and we will follow this case very closely.

The law must be allowed to run its course, and we hope that justice will prevail by sending a strong message against violence against women.
