DA/COPE take over Bitou Municipality - Theuns Botha

New administration to undertake forensic audit of the old

DA TAKES OVER BITOU MUNICIPALITY

The DA and Cope today (6 June 2011) took control of the Bitou Municipality and the Swellendam Municipality with the ACDP.  After today it is only Hessequa that is still outstanding, along with those district Municipalities which must now be constituted.  The DA will be governing Bitou municipality in a coalition with COPE.

The DA is very excited about taking over Bitou from the ANC and we are especially excited about the new mayor-elect, Mayor Memory Booysen.  Adam van Rhyner from COPE will take up the position of deputy mayor.

There is a lot of hard work that lies ahead for the DA / Cope-team in Bitou. Firstly we will ensure that the municipality is compliant with the necessary legislation. We also need to identify key objectives and put in place policies to achieve these objectives.

The Integrated Development Plan (IDP) to get the community involved in the municipality will also be initiated.  For the first time in Bitou, the DA / Cope will put in place an Audit Committee and a Special Committee on Public Accounts.

The organogram for the municipality needs to be redone and after the end of this financial year, 1 July 2011, the municipality will undertake a forensic audit.  The audit will serve to revise all transactions and financial activities under ANC control.

We are very optimistic that under the leadership of the DA/COPE coalition, we will transform this municipality, within this term, into one of the most successful municipalities in South Africa.
