Dear parents of Fish Hoek High School,

Earlier this week, I became aware of concerns regarding an intervention that took place at the school on Monday 31 October 2022.

Many parents have voiced concerns over the content of the intervention, and the manner in which it was communicated and managed.

I understand your concerns, frustrations, and anger, and can assure you that we are taking this matter very seriously.

What happened on Monday should never have happened, and I apologise for the hurt that it has caused our learners.

I suspended the intervention immediately, and we are investigating exactly what happened, to ensure that it never happens again.

A review of the content, and the manner in which It was managed and communicated, is underway.

I am aware that there are many questions to which you seek answers, as do I, but I ask for your patience as we get to the bottom of this.

I appreciate the inputs that parents have made so far, to my office, the Department, and the school principal, including the need to promote unity and understanding in the school.

I share a particular concern raised by many of you: the wellbeing of our matrics, who are writing their National Senior Certificate exams of present.

Signed

MR D MAYNIER
MINISTER OF EDUCATION
