EFF condemns Pravin Gordhan attempt to influence Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng in appointment of judges

13 April 2021

The EFF condemns with contempt and disgust, Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan, for trying to influence the appointment of his friend Dhaya Pillay, by orchestrating a clandestine meeting with The Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Mogoeng Mogoeng.

In an alarming revelation of how corrupt and twisted Pravin Gordhan is, Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng relayed to the Judicial Service Commission, which sat to interview candidates for the Constitutional Court, how Gordhan attempted to find out how a candidate did in an interview.

Gordhan made an inexplicable effort to meet with the Chief Justice to inquire as to how an individual he purposefully identified as a friend did in an interview process to appoint Judges.

This very same candidate, judge Dhaya Pillay was seated before the commission as this unscrupulous relationship between a judge and Minister was exposed, in her clearly factional bid to assume office in the highest court in our land.

We are not at all surprised by the revelations made by the Chief Justice, as the EFF has long spoken about Gordhan's dangerous influence in South Africa, particularly in the judiciary and the financial regulation sector.

Pravin Gordhan has a tendency of meeting judges that are set to make critical inquiries, judgements, remarks or recommendations in matters relating to him, most notably exposed to have met Judge Nugent, prior to the SARS Commission of Inquiry.

His undeniable backing of Judge Dhaya Pillay to assume one of the two vacancies at the Constitutional Court reveals a premeditated capture of the judiciary of South Africa by a corrupt cabal of lapdogs, such as Cyril Ramaphosa in the interests of foreign Western interests and private capital.

That Pillay further conceded after intense questioning to having interests in various commercial banks in South Africa, whose roots can be traced back to perverted capitalists who manipulate the Rand and participate in unethical activity, castes a bad light on the judiciary.

If judges are friends with prominent politicians and have these politicians inquire about their career aspirations, while holding shares in major banks that are frequently in dispute with ordinary citizens, then we must fear for the worst.

The EFF has continuously called for the removal of Pravin Gordhan as a Minister for being corrupt, dismissive, a bully, racist and a running dog of white monopoly capital. Today, the Chief Justice bravely confirmed that he is a criminal who undermines our judiciary and seeks to capture it to further his personal interests.

The EFF will report Pravin Gordhan to the Public Protector, for breaching the Executive Ethics Act 1998, in that he has attempted to unduly influence a sitting Chief Justice, which is against good governance, represents him using his position to improperly benefit another person and failure to act in good faith.

We will further report Judge Dhaya Pillay for misconduct and bias to the Judicial Conduct Committee.

These two individuals are indicative of a possible rot in our judiciary that must be speedily exposed, and part of this is the unsealing of the CR17 Documents.

We will not allow Gordhan to continue to undermine all relevant institutions in this country, through privatizing State-Owned Entities, manipulating law and tax investigative agencies and attempting to capture our judiciary.

If we must go to the streets to free institutions of this country from the filthy grip of Pravin Gordhan, then we will do so by any means necessary.

In light of these revelations of a criminal network attempting to influence the judiciary, the EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu will be opening a case of corruption against Pravin Gordhan under the following details:

Venue: Hillbrow Police Station

Wednesday, 14 April 2021

The EFF, through Deputy President Floyd Shivambu has opened a case against Minister of Public Enterprises Jamnadas Gordhan , for abusing his authority in attempting to influence the Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng in the appointment of Dhaya Pillay as a judge.

This comes after revelations made by the Chief Justice at the Judicial Service Commission, in which the friendship of Gordhan and Pillay was exposed, and a dubious meeting which was organised by Gordhan with the Chief Justice was revealed, in which Gordhan inquired about the success of his friend in previous JSC interviews.

In doing this, at the time as a Minister of Finance, Gordhan violated the Prevention and Combatting of Corrupt Activities Act 12 of 2004; abusing his authority to benefit another.
