Holiday homes leases in Gordon's Bay - immoral and illegal

The article in the Cape Times of Monday 1 August 2011 refers (see here).

These holiday bungalows are the property of the City of Cape Town and was leased out to individuals during the last days of apartheid under a 50 year lease, and is a clear example of the looting of state resources that took place under apartheid. This has happened under the watch of the National Party, many of whom are in the DA today. This is the reason why the DA is happy to continue the leases, to their old NP buddies.

This is however City Council property and was meant to be available to all the people of Cape Town to rent as holiday accommodation. To rent it to certain individuals for 50 years at a pittance is totally unacceptable, as it deprives the broader Cape Town community.

The fact that the accommodation is now leased on to foreigners means that the original lease holders are now making a fortune from Council property. They pay R1200 per month to the Council and then get R10 000 per month from the foreigners they are leasing it to.

The condoning of this practice by the Mayco as recommended by Ian Nielsen point in the news paper amounts to condoning fraudulent practices and prejudicing the Community of Cape Town, for the benefit of a few apartheid thieves.  This practice must be stopped immediately, and the holiday bungalows, restored to the City and be made available to the entire community of Cape Town.

The ANC will report this matter to the Public Protector for a decision, as the DA will use their majority in the Council to push through the decision.  The ANC will also use this principle to put an end to all the other fraudulent leases that were put in place before the end of Apartheid by unscrupulous National Party administration.
