Govt's offer ridiculous - SADTU

Teacher's union says R10 housing allowance increase is an insult

SADTU REJECTS AS RIDICULOUS THE EMPLOYER'S REVISED OFFER OF R10.00 0N HOUSING ALLOWANCE

The South African Democratic Teachers Union SADTU has rejected the employer offer tabled in the Bargaining Council on Thursday, 29th July 2010.

We are calling upon the employer not to insult the Public Service workers with such a ridiculous offer of a mere R10.00 from R620.00 to R630.00 for housing allowance and an unacceptable 6.5% for salary increase.

Labour demands are as follows:

  • 8,6% salary increase
  • R1000 housing allowance per month
  • Equalization of medial aid subsidies
  • The implementation date of  1 April 2010

The employer offer is as follows:

  • 6,5% salary increase
  • Housing allowance of R130 (R500 + R120+ R10)
  • Medical Aid. Process matter
  • Implementation date of 1 July 2010.

The Union is continuing to mobilise members for a total shut down on the 10th of August when COSATU Public Sector unions will march in Pretoria and Cape Town as resolved on Wednesday 27th July.

SADTU will embark on non-cooperation with the employer at all levels from the 6th August 2010. Non-cooperation means that all members of the union will not attend any meetings or workshop/training convened by the employer at workplaces.
