06 December 2011

President Jacob Zuma has appointed the Honourable Mr Justice Hendrick Mmoli Thekiso Musi, Judge President of the Free State High Court, as a member of the Commission of Inquiry into the "Arms Deal".

On 24 October 2011 President Zuma, appointed, in terms of section 84(2)(f) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 , a Commission of Inquiry to look into allegations of fraud, corruption, impropriety or irregularity in the Strategic Defence Procurement Package, otherwise also known as the "Arms Deal".

The President also appointed the Honourable Justice Willie Seriti as Chairperson of the Commission as well as Justice Willem Jacobus van der Merwe and Justice Malesela Francis Legodi as Members of the Commission.

However, Justice Van der Merwe indicated that he would no longer be able to serve as a member of the Commission for personal reasons, thus necessitating the President to appoint Justice Musi in his stead.

The Commission is now composed of the Honourable Mr Justice Seriti, Judge of the Supreme Court of Appeal as its Chairperson, the Honourable Mr Justice Legodi, Judge of the North Gauteng High Court and the Honourable Mr Justice Musi, Judge President of the Free State High Court as its members.

"We once again wish Mr Justice Seriti and his team well in the execution of this important task," said President Zuma.
