Krugersdorp employee arrested for selling jobs - SAPS

Suspect offered jobs in municipality at cost of R1,500 each

SAPS ARREST A MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEE FOR FRAUD

PRETORIA: Yesterday a 38-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly "selling" jobs that were advertised by the Mogale City Local Municipality in Krugersdorp.

The suspect was under the employment of the municipality when she is alleged to have promised jobs to destitute applicants at the cost of R1 500 each. The Organized Crime Unit in Krugersdorp engaged the woman and through a planned police action, arrested her. An undisclosed amount of money, which was apparently paid to her by some of the applicants, was also seized from her.

The woman has been employed as an environmental specialist and she has been with the municipality for approximately a decade. The woman is known to have been leading a lavish lifestyle, having at least two luxurious vehicles, an Audi A4 and an Audi Q7 SUV. It is very likely that we will also be engaging the Asset Forfeiture Unit to look into her possessions having been possibly acquired through the proceeds of crime.

The suspect in currently in police custody and she is expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates court on charges of Fraud on Thursday, 31 March 2011.
