Government may not be allowed to incite self-hate

Malcolm X, the founder of the Black Consciousness Movement in America, once asked his audience who taught them to hate themselves. He was quite right as self-hate is not only destructive, but also unnatural.

The language policies of former Afrikaans universities do not speak of transformation or even nation building, but rather cultural oppression.

The University of Pretoria is a good example of this. Pretoria is a city with approximately one million Afrikaans-speaking people. And yet no lectures may be presented in Afrikaans since the beginning of 2019.

Tuks Res, which manages the hostels, also prohibits the use of Afrikaans in any of their meetings, gatherings, announcements and notices.

That brings the FF Plus to the question often asked in the corridors: What is the purpose of Orania?

The answer is threefold:

It creates a new point of reference for Afrikaners, it aims to repair the damage done by cultural oppression and it helps people to unlearn the self-hate that the government has incited among certain communities.
