Nkandla committee's deadline extended - Office of the ANC Chief Whip

Meeting adjourned until next week to allow support staff a sufficient time to finalise a comprehensive first draft report

ADJOURNMENT OF TODAY'S AD HOC COMMITTEE MEETING

9 October 2014

The Office of the ANC Chief Whip notes the adjournment of the meeting of the parliamentary ad hoc committee set up to consider President Jacob Zuma's response to reports on the security upgrades at Nkandla private residence. The adjournment will allow the ad hoc committee's support staff a sufficient time to finalise a comprehensive first draft report of the committee for consideration next week.

The extension of the deadline for the finalisation of the draft report became necessary in the light of the complex nature of the work around the compilation of the report. The draft report must take into account the mandate of the committee, the contents of the reports under consideration, areas of commonalities and differences, any existing gaps, recommendations and proposed measures to curb recurrence.

The committee will at its next meeting carefully scrutinise the draft comprehensive report and make a determination regarding how it should proceed. It is important that the committee performs its task with due diligence, thoroughness and meticulousness to ensure that its outcomes are of highest quality.
