Ntlemeza now being investigated for perjury – Zakhele Mbhele

DA MP says Hawks can't be led by a person whose character and actions have been called into question

Ntlemeza now investigated for perjury and must be fired

31 March 2016

In yet another illustration of the glaring unsuitability of Berning Ntlemeza to be the Head of the Hawks, it has emerged that he is now being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) for perjury in relation to untruths in his affidavit filed at the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in a further vexatious appeal against the illegal suspension of Johan Booysen.

It is unfathomable that the Hawks, tasked with fighting priority crime, is led by a person whose character and actions have cause to be consistently called into question.

The DA therefore calls on Police Minister, Nathi Nhleko, yet again, to put the best interests of the people of South Africa first and immediately fire Ntlemeza.

In January 2014 the North Gauteng High Court Judge Matonjane stated that Ntlemeza was“biased, dishonest and lacks integrity and honour” and further that the man responsible for fighting priority crime such as corruption and organised crime, was dishonest as he “made false statements under oath.”

It is abundantly clear that Ntlemeza is not fit and proper to lead the fight against corruption and organised crime in the country. In order win the fight against corruption it is vital that those responsible are beyond reproach.
