Order that Zuma must testify sends right message – Pieter Groenewald

FF plus leader says former president must answer to allegations against him

Constitutional Court’s order that Zuma must testify sends the right message

28 January 2021

The FF Plus welcomes the order issued by the Constitutional Court that former President Jacob Zuma must appear before the Zondo Commission of Inquiry to give evidence. This sends the right message to all other individuals who may possibly have to testify, namely that they cannot evade it.

In addition, it must be ensured that the criminal complaint lodged against Zuma for leaving the Commission without permission proceeds and that he appears before court if it is decided that he must be prosecuted.

The FF Plus expressed that nobody is above the law when Zuma refused to testify.

State capture has a very serious and long-term impact on South Africa, thus, individuals who are implicated in it and found guilty must be held accountable and appear before court.

The allegations made against Zuma before the Commission are extremely serious, especially the most recent evidence of his attempt to establish a parallel intelligence agency with large amounts of money he received from the State Security Agency (SSA).

Zuma must answer to these allegations. In the past when allegations were made against him, he always responded by saying that he wants his day in court to state his case. He now has the opportunity to do so before the Zondo Commission.
