Parliament should summon Brian Molefe - Natasha Michael

DA MP says Eskom CEO blatantly misled SA when he said he wasn't provided an opportunity to respond to PP's report

State Capture: Parliament should summon Brian Molefe to testify, under oath

The DA will request that Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises summons Eskom CEO, Brian Molefe, as a matter of urgency so that he can tell the truth to South Africa about his relationship with the Guptas, under oath.

Mr Molefe has conveniently attempted to explain away the damning revelations of the Public Protector’s State Capture report during press briefings, thereby placing no obligation on him to tell the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

In fact, he has already blatantly misled South Africa when he said he wasn’t provided with an opportunity to respond to the State Capture Report. The Public Protector’s Office has confirmed that he did receive and respond to questions in writing.

Should he repeat this lie under oath, Mr Molefe would be in violation of the Powers, Privileges and Immunities of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act, 2004 – a criminal offence.

Given the ANC’s new-found, albeit belated interest in holding institutions such as the SABC accountable, we are confident that they would have no problem in supporting this request.

Parliament must do its job to ensure accountability for the unprecedented level of corruption revealed in the State of Capture Report. The DA will work tirelessly to ensure that this happens, and fast.
