POPCRU welcomes Bheki Cele appointment

Benzi ka-Soko says union is impressed by new police chief's no-nonsense attitude

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) welcomes the appointment of the new Police Commissioner, Mr Bheki Cele. We believe that Mr Cele vividly understands the crime situation in this country. He has demonstrated this understanding and distinguished himself as a pragmatist in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

We are particularly impressed by his No-nonsense attitude towards criminals and the strong messages he has sent to the criminal underworld. POPCRU is looking forward to working with him and his team in the crime-fighting project as elucidated through the government's Anti-Crime Strategic Plan. We further call on all South Africans to join hands with Mr Cele and contribute in the fight against crime. We all have a role to play in the obliteration of the scourge of crime.

Statement issued by Benzi ka-Soko, POPCRU National Spokesperson, July 30 2009
