946.   Mr N J J van R Koornhof (Cope) to ask the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development:

(a) How many judges are there in total, (b) how many male judges are (i) Black and (ii) White and (c) how many female judges are (aa) Black and (bb) White?

REPLY:-

(a) There are currently 233 Judges appointed in the various Superior Courts.

(b) There are 168 male judges of which (i) 97 are Black made up of 69 Africans, 16 Coloureds and 12 of Indian descent and (ii) 71 of the 168 male judges are White.

(b) There are 65 female judges of which (aa) 45 are Black made up of 25 Africans, 8 Coloureds and 12 of Indian descent and (bb) 20 of the 65 female judges are White.
