Racist DA councillor should step down immediately – EFF KZN

Fighters notes remarks with utter disgust and condemn them in strongest possible terms

EFF KZN calls for racist DA councillor to step down with immediate effect

11 January 2022

The Economic Freedom Fighters in KwaZuIu-NataI is calling for Newcastle Municipality's DA ward councillor Connie Hariram to step down with immediate effect, following a leaked audio where she was questioning why a black woman was elected to form part of a ward committee in a predominantly Indian ward.

We note these racist remarks with utter disgust and we condemn them in the strongest possible terms. We also note with shame how the DA masquerading as on organization that aims to promote social cohesion and advance diversity has propagated racial discrimination by taking no necessary action, meanwhile this issue was brought to the attention of its leaders late last year.

In a post- democratic South Africa where social cohesion is pivotal we cannot afford to have racist leaders who only see people through racist lenses. Hariram's racist remarks are not only an insult to Black people but are also an insult to all women including herself taking into account that she is questioning the credibility of another woman based on gender, race and class.

We call upon the Speaker to investigate these distressing allegations and act decisively. Failure to attend to our demands, we are going to stage a march to the municipality's offices to wage war against racism.
