JOHANNESBURG - The paid circulation of the The Thinker, the monthly magazine edited by former minister, Essop Pahad, and funded by businessman Atul Gupta, continues to decline.
This is according to the latest figures released by the Audit Bureau of Circulation.
The ABC states that in the second quarter of 2010 The Thinker sold an average of 809 copies a month, down from 1076 copies the quarter before. In the quarter following its launch (July to Sept 2009) the magazine sold an average of 1,364 copies per month. See table and graph below.
The Gupta Group is funding the launch of the daily newspaper The New Age. According to Business Day the board TNA Media, The New Age's publisher, "will consist of Mr Gupta, Kumba Iron Ore chairman Lazarus Zim and Dr Essop Pahad...The New Age will be a narrow broadsheet and will come out Sunday to Friday. The initial print run is 170,000 copies and is targeted at living standards measures 4 to 10. It will be sold for R3,50."
