Parolees on rehabilitation/re-arrested
Mr G Michalakis (Free State: DA) to ask the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services:
(a) How many of the 14 000 parolees that were released during the lockdown (i) were part of a rehabilitation programme whilst they were incarcerated and (ii) have since been re-arrested for other offences and (b) how many of such offences were of a more serious nature than the initial offences they committed? CO452E
REPLY:
(a)(i) All offenders were subjected to rehabilitation programmes before they were placed out as this was the prerequisite for placement on parole for offenders who benefitted from Special Parole Dispensation.
(a)(ii) Have since been re-arrested for other offences and; (b) how many of such offences were of a more serious nature than the initial offences they committed?
