Vote out the ANC to put SA first - Mmusi Maimane

DA leader says President Zuma’s repeated ludicrous comments are in direct conflict with his Oath of Office

Vote out the ANC to put SA first

16 November 2015

President Jacob Zuma’s reiteration of his disturbing view that the ANC comes first, reaffirms that President Zuma serves the ANC not South Africa and its people.

This does not come as a surprise given the President’s absence of leadership when it comes to the crippling economy, growing unemployment, student unrest at the country’s higher learning institutions, and a plethora of other ills which have infected society since President Zuma took office in 2009.

In the most recent of instances of President Zuma putting himself and the ANC first is his decision not to denounce the acquisition of a R4 billion jet, which the country and its people cannot afford.

The DA’s request for the President to make a statement on the jet prior to his oral question session on Thursday has gone notably unanswered.

In the strongest of terms, the Democratic Alliance (DA) would like to remind the President of his Oath of Office, where he promised in the presence of the nation’s people to “protect and promote the rights of all South Africans” not to promote the rights of only ANC members and; to “devote myself to the well-being of the Republic and all of its people”, not to devote himself to the well-being of only the ANC and its members.

President Zuma’s repeated ludicrous comments are in direct conflict with his station in society and his Oath of Office.

Next year’s Local Government Elections come as a golden opportunity for the people who the ANC has long forgotten. South Africans, in their numbers, must come out and vote for the DA, which puts South Africa and its future first, and relegate the ANC to the doldrums of history.

Unlike the ANC and President Zuma, the DA understands that South Africa and its interests come before those of the Party. We exist to serve the country and its people, and to uphold the Constitution and its provisions.
