YCL "disgusted" by leaking of Malema's matric results to media

Statement issued by the Young Communist League October 24 2008

YCL response to today's The Stars Newspaper article on "Malema results shock".

YCL statement on the Star newspaper article of today's edition Friday 24 October 2008, "Malema results shock" refers.

The Young Communist League [uFasimba] is concerned on the continued venomous and systematic attacks directed against the African National Congress Youth League [ANC YL] President Cde Julius Malema.

As the YCL we condemn the publication of the matric results [see here] of Cde Malema in today's edition of The Star newspaper.

We are disgusted by the leaking of these results to the media and this undermines the confidentiality of academic records between the student and educational authorities. This provides a prima facie case which needs to be answered by education authorities in malicious attacks aimed at destroying the political career of ANC YL President.

We believe that there remains a commitment to silence and isolate the ANC YL President from his core constituency and the ANC YL itself. The publication of these results are nothing else, but a political strategy to implant the notion that to be a good leader you must be 'certificated'.

We are of the firm view that a leader's educational intellect is organically cultivated and linked with his practical experiences and interactions with the ordinary people on a daily basis. This interpretation is consistent with our own unique South African and popular Nguni maxim; "umuntu ufunda azafe".

As the YCL, we strongly believe that we using this opportunity to encourage learners to learn and pass convincingly for the betterment of their own future and the country.
