Zuma has our unwavering support as he goes to court – Gauteng RET

Zuma Support Group wishes former president well as he prepares to proceed with trial

The Gauteng RET President Zuma Support Group wishes President Zuma well as he prepares to proceed with his trial and pledge our unwavering support

3 May 2020

The Gauteng RET President Zuma Support Group continues to be of the belief that the prosecution of President Zuma is malicious, and politically motivated. Our stance that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) should never have proceeded with the trial against Nxamalala is well known, and we remain of the same conviction.

However, in the face of the NPA's stubborn insistence to push ahead with the persecution of President Zuma, we understand and support, Nxamalala's decision to withdraw his application to the Constitutional Court for leave to appeal and, without further delay, to now proceed with going to trial.

Those of us who have supported President Zuma throughout the more than 20 year long ordeal that he has been subjected to, are on public record to have planned a mass gathering at the Pietermaritzburg High Court to support him, and to protest his continuing persecution on the 6th of May 2020, which was set as the next date for him to appear in court. However, as law abiding citizens we would not have gone ahead with those plans because of the COVID19 pandemic, and the resultant lockdown.

We note that the date for the resumption of the trial has been postponed to the 23rd of June 2020. President Zuma can be assured of our continued full support, and this will certainly be demonstrated on the 23rd of June.

At this stage it is not clear at which level of the lockdown our country will be in, and as always we will abide by the lockdown regulations. If it is possible at that time to gather at the Pietermaritzburg High Court we will do so in our thousands, if not we will find alternative ways to demonstrate our support for President Zuma. We will do so in compliance with the law. Such will include the opportunity for President Zuma to address us as his supporters, and the entire nation. How this will be done is still a matter of further consultation with President Zuma, the Jacob G Zuma Foundation, and other interested parties. An announcement in this regard will be made in due course through the appropriate channels.

As President Zuma, and his legal team, proceed to prepare for the upcoming trial we wish him strength, and once again assure him of our unwavering support.

It is our ardent hope that the decision of Nxamalala to proceed with the trial will demonstrate his innocence, and will further expose the political persecution that he has been subjected to, as well as those who are responsible for this travesty.

As concerned members of the African National Congress (ANC), together with the citizens of our nation, we furthermore hope that we will finally get some certainty and closure, as to who the real beneficiaries of the Arms Deal were, if indeed any corruption in that regard did occur.
