AfriForum Youth already succeeds in having 51 NSFAS students registered

AfriForum Youth's legal team was informed yesterday (31 March 2021) that 51 of the 132 students they represent in the case regarding their irregularly suspended NSFAS funding have already been allowed to register for 2021 at various universities while the NSFAS case is still pending. On Monday, AfriForum Youth’s legal team sent letters to various universities, appealing to them to allow the students who form part of the case, to register even though the case is still to be finalised.

Feedback received from Nelson Mandela University, the University of the Western Cape, Stellenbosch University and the University of Pretoria, confirms that they will allow the students to register. AfriForum Youth is still waiting for the response of 12 other tertiary institutions on whether they will follow suit to accommodate the affected students.

“We are grateful that the universities are prepared to accommodate our members and afford these students the opportunity to continue with their studies. The uncertainty of the past few months has left many students discouraged and I believe they will now be able to breathe a sigh of relief,” said Chantelle du Preez, National Coordinator of Campus Structures at AfriForum Youth.

AfriForum Youth will continue to defend the rights of students who are being abused as pawns in the political game on campuses.
