ANC APPLAUDS POLICE WORK IN CRACKING POLITICAL KILLING CASES IN KZN

The African National Congress (ANC) has noted the developments surrounding the arrests of two deployees in the local govemment sphere in KwaZulu-Natal Province. The two leaders have been implicated in the brutal murders of party members. The ANC expresses its appreciation for the work done by the police in arresting the suspects.

Today, Cde Mluleki Ndobe who is the mayor of Harry Gwala District Municipality appears in court in connection with the murder of former ANC Youth League secretary-general, Cde Sindiso Magaqa. We have also noted the arrest of Cde Ntuthuko Mahlaba , the Mayor of Newcastle Municipality in connection with the murder of former Emalahleni youth league leader Wandile Ngubeni in 2016. Cde Mahlaba also appears in court today.

The ANC is pleased that President Cyril Ramaphosa, having announced the formation of a ministerial task team to probe political killings, there is tangible progress in finding suspects linked to these horrendous murders.

Although the ANC believes in the principle of innocent until proven guilty, the law must take its course. The ANC hopes that the families of our late comrades, friends and membership of our movement will finally find closure, knowing that our justice system works without fear or favour. The ANC calls on all structures, members, and interest groups to volunteer information on this matter in a dignified manner, consistent with a commitment to respect, uphold and defend the rule of law.

Importantly, the ANC in the province of KZN will announce the way forward with regard to the cause of action in relation to the deployment of the affected comrades. The ANC is confident that the law-enforcement agencies will leave no stone untumed to ensure that justice is done.
