ANCYL disappointed about dropping of charges against Reitz Four

Youth League says those who practise racism should face the consequences

ANC YL DISAPPOINTED BY THE DECISION OF UNIVERSITY OF FREE STATE DECISION TO DROP CHARGES AGAINST THE RACIST STUDENTS:

The African National Congress Youth League is disappointed by the decision of University of Free State new Vice Chancellor Jonathan Jansen to drop charges against Reitz Residence students who humiliated African workers in one of South Africa most hurting racist practices under democracy. We understand the intention to reconcile racial injustices and prejudices, but strongly convinced that those who engage in racist practices should face the consequences.

In the case of the Reitz Residence racists, we are still unaware if they are remorseful of their acts and also unaware if the victims will find peace when the racists' case is dropped before a judicial process is followed. Jonathan Jansen should reconsider his decision and ensure that the racists are taken through a proper judicial process.

As an immediate programme, Jonathan Jansen should ensure that there is total integration in all residences, and altogether illegalise residences that are separated on the basis of race.
