League says former president led collective charge for development of Africa

ANCYL wishes Comrade Thabo Mbeki a joyous birthday

The African National Congress Youth League wishes the Former President of the African National Congress, Cde Thabo Mbeki a peaceful and happy birthday. As President of the African National Congress, Cde Mbeki, has led the collective charge for the renewed development of the African continent, notably through the African Renaissance and the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).

Our Programme of Action for Economic Freedom in our Lifetime makes the unequivocal call for massive development of the African economy, driven by radical and decisive programmes led by the South African government and private sector. It remains our conviction that South Africa's development is intricately linked to the development and prosperity of Africa and her people as a whole.

No amount of sustainable socio-economic development and stability will be realised in South Africa unless the State plays in active role in the economic development of the African continent. This obviously should include the development of trade corridors that link up the entire African continent and capacity to consume the goods and services produced in the continent.

We call upon South Africa therefore to use its membership of BRICS to benefit not only South Africa and her partners, but the over 1 billion people on the continent who continue to look to the largest and oldest liberation movement on the continent to develop progressive and sustainable African solutions to Africa's problems.

We commend Cde Thabo Mbeki's continuing commitment to the development of African leadership in particular and the role he continues to play towards the attainment of the Freedom Charter demand that "South Africa shall strive to maintain world peace and the settlement of all international disputes by negotiation - not war;"
Yanga ungane mini emnandi Zizi!!
