Cosatu Condemns City Focus on Cell Phones while the City's people are under attack!

Cosatu calls for JP Smith's head!!!

JP Smith fiddles with cell phones whilst people are dying in Cape Town.

Cosatu is astounded that JP Smith focuses on cell phones, when the City is facing an unprecedented attack on its citizens by criminal elements! The people of the City are desperate for help to secure their communities from gang attacks and the level of insecurity of Communities about their safety is at the highest levels ever in the City.

Instead of focussing on addressing this problem and securing the safety of Communities, JP Smith prioritises dogs barking and people talking on cell phones. This is a blatant dereliction of duty in respect of the most urgent challenges facing this City, all so that he can put out media statements about cell phone anti crime gimmicks. There is no doubt that if this City of Cape Town administration listened to the people of the City, they would hear them ask for an end to gang violence rather than an end to cell phones in cars.

JP Smith and the DA has no sense of the drastic urgent needs in the City and are more directed at photo opportunities and press statements around less urgent issues. Some things are just more urgent that others, but JP Smith seems intent on deploying resources to the issues that the communities of Sea Point are concerned about, rather than the issues that the Communities of Mitchell's Plain and Langa are concerned about.

JP Smith continues to demonstrate his incompetence in prioritising the urgent needs of Communities and building strategies to address their concerns. He hides behind gimmicks like cell phone violations to deflect attention from his obvious inability to address the crime and violence.
