Don't be part of the media frenzy – ANCWL

Women's League urges ANC members to deal with the Gupta issue this weekend behind closed doors

The ANCWL denounces the use of media by senior members of the ANC on the alleged Gupta offers

17 March 2016

The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) has noted the media reports alleging influence by the Gupta Family on Cabinet appointments. We also noted the statement by Deputy Ministerof Finance ,Cde Mcebisi Jonas which claimed that the Guptas offered him a position of Finance Minister.

In noting the statement by Comrade Jonas  we think these allegations are serious, they provide an opportunity for the Organisation to take Leadership and guide how the matters need to be handled, and also deal head-on with the root issues. The ANC Secretary General's call for people to come forward needs be an Organisational process that is not left to suprises in the media as these are not in line with the Organisational discipline . The subsequent manner of raising further allegations among which date back as far back as 2010 smacks of bad intentions that are not helping the Organisation .

The seriousness of these allegations stand to threaten the integrity of the ANC as a governing party and its deployment processes even in the future. We implore the NEC to give proper guidance and engage properly with the affected parties, and take leadership of the Alliance and society not the other way round. We also urge Leaders of our movement to refrain from the media frenzy and engage on the issues this coming weekend.
