Msunduzi's corrupt practices to be exposed - IFP

IFP welcomes the commission of inquiry into the alleged financial mismanagement at Msunduzi Municipality

The IFP today welcomed reports that a Commission of Inquiry has been set-up by the MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs in KZN, Nomsa Dube, into the alleged financial mismanagement at the Msunduzi Municipality.

The IFP has long criticised the general state of chaos and maladministration within the Municipality.

"At last the ANC's chickens are coming home to roost and the outrageous and scandalous poor governance practices, fraud and corruption at the Msunduzi Municipality are about to be uncovered. The IFP has, for a number of years, demanded action to be taken to curb the rampant corruption at this municipality," said Dr Lionel Mtshali, the IFP's spokesperson on Finance, Economic Development and Scopa in KwaZulu Natal.

Last year, the IFP expressed its outrage when it emerged that Dr Jabulani Mjwara, the infamous former Head of KwaZulu Natal Department of Agriculture, was the preferred bidder for a multi-million rand tender at Msunduzi Municipality, which highlighted the entrenched corruption practices at the municipality.

"The veil of secrecy, impunity and immunity which has clouded the Msunduzi Municipality will finally be exposed and all the skeletons that have been hiding will now rattle out of the cupboard," said Dr Mtshali.

He added: "The IFP sincerely hopes that this Inquiry will bring into the open all the details pertaining to the ANC's expanding network of corrupt relationships within this municipality and across the different tiers of government in the KwaZulu Natal."
