TLU SA HANDS OVER MEMORANDUM TO NPA REGARDING PROSECUTION OF ANDILE MNGXITAMA
“We are all concerned. Everyone in South Africa is.”
With these words Ms Makete, of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on Tuesday morning accepted a memorandum of TLU SA at the NPA’s head office in Silverton, Pretoria.
The memorandum is about the vengeful and inflammatory words of Andile Mngxitama, leader of Black First Land First (BLF), uttered in December during a public rally in Potchefstroom.
“This kind of hate speech spewing from his mouth continuously is extremely inflammatory and often the spark to lead to violent attacks and even murder on farms,” says the President of TLU SA, Mr Louis Meintjies.
On December 11th 2018 TLU SA laid a charge of hate speech against the leader of the BLF, Andile Mngxitama with the police. The previous day, during a public rally in Potchefstroom, North West, he threatened to kill five white people for every one black person killed. He further made threats against women and children: “We will kill their children, we will kill their women, we will kill anything we find on our way”.
“Since then we’ve not had any feedback regarding the process,” says Mr Meintjies. “After various phone calls and emails, we hand-delivered a letter to the office of the NPA. It was signed for by Adv. E Matzke on behalf of the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions and she undertook to give feedback within two days. We’ve not heard anything.”
Makete was concerned over why TLU SA have not had any feedback about the case. She resolved to urgently follow up with the right people. She also acknowledged a petition with the names of 30 886 people who supports this action by TLU SA.
“We are pleased to hear that the NPA is also concerned over threats made by Mngxitama and Julius Malema against white South Africans,” says Mr Meintjies. “We trust that there will be a decision about the prosecution of Mngxitama soon.”
TLU SA is again making an urgent request to the NPA’s National Director of Public Prosecutions, Adv Shamila Batohi, to prosecute Mngxitama.
