NUMSA to be given one last chance - COSATU CEC

On November 7 union will be given an opportunity to motivate why it should not be suspended or expelled from Federation

COSATU Special Central Executive committee meeting

The National Office Bearers of the Congress of South African Trade Unions convened a special meeting of its Central Executive Committee from 21-23 October 2014 to receive a report of the African National Congress Task Team and to sign off the Secretariat Report for the forthcoming Central Committee meeting.

There was a frank, robust and difficult discussion on the ANC report, and the CEC decided not to take any decisions but to reconvene on 7 November 2014, when there will be a discussion, informed by the ANC Task Team, report on:

1. NUMSA to be given an opportunity to make a presentation as to whether or not it should be suspended or expelled from the federation;

2. The status of the COSATU 2nd Deputy President;

3. The President's response to the call for a Special National Congress;

4. An update on the disciplinary processes involving the General Secretary and a staff member

5. An update on litigation against COSATU

6. Whether or not to proceed with the Central Committee scheduled for November, given that the CEC did not have time to consider the Secretariat Report. The NOBs were given a mandate to decide on this.

Statement issued by Patrick Craven, COSATU national spokesperson, October 24 2014
