SACP condemns Israeli barbarism in strongest possible terms

Party says this type of collective punishment a contravention of all UN conventions and rules

SACP condemns Israeli apartheid and atrocities against the Palestinian people

Thursday, 10 July 2014

The SACP is outraged at the campaign of brutalisation and murder being waged by the apartheid Israeli regime on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and Israeli occupied Palestinian territories. We condemn such barbarism and flagrant violation of international law in strongest terms possible.

This type of collective punishment - that the Israeli government routinely embarks upon - is in contravention of all UN conventions and rules and pose a grave humanitarian crisis for Palestinian territories. All Palestinian territories are now totally cut off from other areas in the entire Palestinian land through barbarian check points and the apartheid wall.

The Communist Party condemns with all the contempt it deserves, the US and Western imperialism for always supporting Israeli violence and violation of the rights of the Palestinian people to live freely and independently in their own land of birth. The SACP also strongly condemns the building of illegal settlements in Palestinian territory.

The SACP calls on all peace loving people and workers of the world to unite against this oppression and violation of the human rights of the Palestinian people. We also call for the intensification of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against the apartheid Israeli regime. We especially call upon South African workers to put pressure on all companies with South African operations to pull out of economic activity in the occupied territories of Palestine.

In November 2013, International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane proudly proclaimed: ‘The Palestinian struggle is our struggle'. We therefore call on Minister Nkoana-Mashabane's Department to push for our government to sever all ties with the Zionist Apartheid State: expel the Israeli ambassador, Arthur Lenk, and recall South Africa's ambassador in Tel Aviv, Sisa Ngombane. The SACP also calls all progressive governments to immediately cut diplomatic ties with apartheid Israel.

No longer can South Africa and the world be silent in the face of such oppression.

We are calling for the immediate evacuation of the Israeli occupied Palestinian territories and the establishment of two states, based on a viable and sovereign Palestinian state within the pre-1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital. The SACP condemns all Israeli manoeuvres and operations aimed at making the achievement of this just goal unrealisable.

The SACP reiterates its standing call for urgent intervention by the United Nations to stop the Israeli atrocities and for ensuring an ever urgent resolution of the situation facing the Palestinians.
