SACP KZN welcomes arrests in Sbu Sibiya murder investigation

Party says national intervention needed in running of Ethekwini Municipality

SACP Statement on the arrest of suspect in the murder of Cde Sbu Sibiya

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in KwaZulu-Natal would like to welcome the arrest of a Durban businessman for his alleged involvement in the murder of Comrade Sbu Sibiya (see report in New Age).

Sibiya was the ANC Ethekwini regional secretary.

SACP provincial secretary in KwaZulu-Natal Themba Mthembu said police must leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of other suspects who allegedly worked with the businessman who is said to be a former taxi boss-turned construction tycoon.

"The SACP in KwaZulu-Natal feels vindicated by the recent indications that the death of Cde Sibiya was politically motivated and involved business interests linked to political office. We cannot spin-doctor this symbiotic relationship unless if we are corrupt ourselves," said Mthembu.

The SACP in KZN would like to congratulate the members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) for making the arrest.

"Given the seriousness of the allegations that are doing the rounds surrounding the death of Sibiya accompanied by conspiracy theories we believe it may be appropriate to have national intervention in the running of Ethekwini Municipality" said Mthembu.

He added that in the interest of the security of the suspect the bail must never be considered hence we might have the situation similar to that involving Inkosi Mbongeleni Zondi where all the suspects were eliminated which effectively collapsed the case.
