SAHRC should investigate 'racist teacher' allegations - Khume Ramulifho

Gauteng DA MPL calls on report on incident at National School of Arts to be made public

DA wants Human Rights Commission investigation on alleged school racism

The DA in Gauteng has written to the Human Rights Commission to investigate the allegation of a ‘racist teacher' at the National School of Arts. According to the Star Newspaper, the Department is reported to have launched an independent investigation into the matter (see The Star report).

The DA wants the Human Rights Commission and the Department to make the investigation findings public. The DA condemns any form of racial discrimination. This will send a clear message of zero tolerance to racism in our country.

Schools must ensure that they uphold the rule of law. Teachers have a responsibility to educate learners on how to redress the past imbalances perpetuated by the apartheid government. The school environment must be conducive for learning to both learners and teachers. It is our collective responsibility to promote the fundemental constitutional principle of non-racial society.

Statement issued by Khume Ramulifho, MPL, DA Gauteng Spokesperson for Education, June 3 2014
