The following table reflects the year-on-year changes in the national crime statistics according to the figures for 2012/2013 released by the South African Police Service on September 19 2013. There was 54.8% increase in the number of reported instances of public violence. Increases were also recorded in the absolute numbers of murder, attempted murders and robberies with aggravating circumstances. Among the categories of crime where fewer offences were recorded were assault and crimen injuria.
