The ANC is not the way to heaven - Kenneth Meshoe

ACDP leader appeals to Zuma to stop dishonouring the Christian faith

ACDP calls on President to retract his statement and apologise to the Christian community

"The ACDP is shocked and disappointed that President Zuma chose to mislead and deceive South Africans by saying voters who vote for the ANC will go to heaven and those who vote for opposition parties will go to hell. Christians know that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven and that no political party can take anybody to heaven.

Intimation by the President that the angels in heaven wear ANC colours is not only a blatant lie, but it is also blasphemy. The angels are clothed with the glory and holiness of God, and not with ANC colours.

The President knows that the ANC has failed to deliver in many municipalities, and that many voters have vowed not to vote for them again. He now resorts to fear tactics; attempts to brainwash voters by playing on their fears about their unknown future. This is a weak strategy is to regain the trust the ANC has lost as a result of their failure to deliver on their promises. We appeal to the President to desist from abusing and dishonouring the Christian faith by bringing it down to the level of cheap party politics.

The ACDP calls on the President to retract his irresponsible statement about our faith, apologise to the Christian community, and start acting like a Statesman that does not use deception and blasphemy to try and score cheap political points. As a head of state he is expected to be above reproach and start leading by example".

Statement issued by Rev Kenneth Meshoe, MP, ACDP President, February 7 2011
