DA councillors to resume duties after court overturned unlawful dissolution

30 April 2020

The Democratic Alliance (DA) councillors in Tshwane are ready to carry on serving their residents.

The recent High Court judgment declaring the decision to dissolve the Tshwane Council as unlawful, has vindicated the efforts of the DA in ensuring that truth prevails in the fight to bring stability to the city.

With all councilors now legally reinstated it is critical that work begins to stabilise the leadership in the city.

We have already requested that the Speaker of Council, Katlego Mathebe begins with the necessary arrangements that will allow us to facilitate a council meeting in line with the government regulations pertaining to the spread of the coronavirus.

Similarly, the Chief Whip of Council, Christo Van Den Heever will hold a multi-party whippery meeting with all the different political parties in council.

It is critical that during this time of crisis political parties come together and put aside their differences in order to act in unison in bringing political stability to the city.

We appeal to all political parties represented on the City Council to act in solidarity as we work towards enhancing service delivery in the city.

The DA will be reaching out to the current Head Administrator Mpho Nawa to engage on the work that is being done in the city, particularly as it pertains to the preparations and programmes that have been introduced to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Despite the decision that was taken to dissolve the Tshwane Council, DA councillors throughout the city have continued to serve Tshwane residents to ensure that basic service delivery continues unhindered.

The role they have played has been important in ensuring that residents still have a line of communication with the city administration.

With the DA-led City Council now reinstated, the DA caucus in Tshwane is committed to serving the residents of the city and assisting them during the lockdown.
