633 rhinos lost to poaching in 2012 thus far - DoEA

This is up from 448 rhinos killed by poachers in 2011, 333 killed in 2010

Update on rhino poaching statistics

The latest rhino poaching statistics indicate that a total of 633 rhinos have been lost to poaching since the beginning of this year, with the total number of arrests at 266.

The Kruger National Park has lost 395 rhinos to poaching. The North West, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo provinces continue to be the hardest hit by poachers, collectively accounting for the loss of 197 rhinos.

Of the 266 arrested individuals, 237 are at the level of poacher, 18 are couriers and 11 are receivers.
