FF Plus Gauteng announces its premier candidate

The leader of the FF Plus in Gauteng, Mr. Jaco Mulder, announced today that advocate Anton Alberts will be the party's premier candidate for the 2014 general election in Gauteng. The announcement was made at the FF Plus' Head Office.

Advocate Anton Alberts, FF Plus MP and member of the party's executive committee and deputy-leader of the party in Gauteng, was elected as the party's premier candidate on Saturday during the party's nomination court.  He will replace Mr. Jaco Mulder, MPL and leader of the FF Plus in Gauteng.  Mulder was nominated to represent Gauteng on the party's national list.

Alberts has been actively involved with the FF Plus since 1994.  He was employed as M-Net's business- and legal head between 1998 and 2001.  He is married to Marga and resides in Pretoria.

Alberts is renowned for acting on behalf of the FF Plus in various initiatives which includes action against the e-tolling system in Gauteng.  He also played an integral part in the pending case of R80 billion against Transnet.

According to an independent IPSOS survey that was released in November 2013, the FF Plus showed significant growth of more than 22% in the province.  The FF Plus is also the third biggest opposition party in the Gauteng Legislature.

The FF Plus has succeeded in taking the government to court in regards with t-tolling and Transnet.  The Transnet case will be the biggest civil case in the history of South Africa. Furthermore, many fights have been fought for the preservation of Pretoria's name, the protection of Kleinfontein as a cultural community and the planned re-demarcation of municipal boundaries.

The party will continue being an effective opposition in Gauteng and will also form part of a coalition government in Gauteng, should the ANC get less than 50% support in the province.

The FF Plus is the only political party in Gauteng that fights for the conservation of Afrikaans, mother-tongue education, minority rights and against race based affirmative action.
