JSC often humiliates applicants for judicial office - Corné Mulder

FF+ MP says some white men interviewed very aggressively for a long time and not recommended

Judicial Services Commission's interviews are humiliating for applicants

"For white men, who allow them to be nominated for positions as judges, it is like playing the lotto - One day is one day, but mostly you win nothing. A lot depends on the atmosphere and feeling of the commission during a meeting and what had taken place during a previous meeting."

This is the opinion of Dr. Corné Mulder, the FF Plus' chief spokesperson on Justice, following the current controversy surrounding the Judicial Services Commission (JSC).

According to Dr. Mulder he had been a member of the JSC for more than three years and the experiences of Dr. Izak Smuts in this regard ‘is nothing new'.

"I also experienced it during my membership of the JSC. Some white men are interviewed very aggressively for a long time and are not recommended. It is general knowledge that some of South Africa's top and most senior advocates do not allow themselves to be nominated and are not prepared to be humiliated in this manner.

"The FF Plus will support legal action which may be taken to force the JSC to give merit its rightful place," Dr. Mulder says.
