No good reason for Ellen Tshabalala to delay inquiry - Gavin Davis

DA MP says SABC chairperson has a simple question to answer: did she lie about her qualifications or not?

DA rejects Tshabalala delaying tactics

14 October 2014

The DA is dismayed at the delaying tactics of Ellen Tshabalala and her legal team at today's parliamentary Inquiry.

It was clear from the outset that Ms. Tshabalala had no intention of using the Inquiry to clear her name today. Instead, she deployed her lawyer, Norman Arendse SC, to exploit every technicality to get the Inquiry postponed.

Ms. Tshabalala has a very simple question to answer: did she lie about her qualifications or not? If she did not, all she needs to do is produce evidence of her qualifications, as she has repeatedly been asked to do.

The DA therefore does not support the postponement of the Inquiry. We believe that Ms. Tshabalala has been given ample time (three weeks) to prepare for it and there is therefore no reason for the delay.

Nevertheless, we will continue to participate in the process to ensure that justice is done in this matter. We expect the Inquiry to reconvene next week at a date to be confirmed.
