12 anaesthetists resign from Charlotte Maxeke - Jack Bloom

DA MPL says the specialists were fed up with pay cuts and insults from Superintendent Dr Mamorena Mofokeng

LOSS OF ANAESTHETISTS WILL HIT SURGERY AT JOBURG HOSPITAL

Surgery backlogs will increase dramatically at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital following the resignation of 12 anaesthetists.

Many operations will be delayed, with patients waiting many more months for operations.

It's a great pity that hospital management has mishandled the overtime issue that has led to the resignations of nearly half the anaesthetics department.

The anaesthetists are fed up with a pay cut of more than 10% because of overtime changes, and insults from Superintendent Dr Mamorena Mofokeng, who has said she celebrates when doctors resign.

Other doctors are expected to leave, which will cripple this hospital further.

The Gauteng Health Department needs to intervene urgently, otherwise this hospital will slide further into crisis.
