Gauteng is mobilising behind Mmusi Maimane for Leader

Candidate for DA Federal Leader Mmusi Maimane today received a letter of public support from 144 Gauteng delegates to the DA’s Federal Congress.

The letter was sent to Maimane by DA Chief Whip in the Gauteng Legislature, Mike Moriarty MPL. Moriarty wrote: “On behalf of myself and the colleagues from Gauteng listed below, we wish to congratulate you and indicate that we will be voting for you in the upcoming Federal Congress.”

The names on the letter include a number of prominent Gauteng DA public representatives and party office-bearers such as:

- Janet Semple (DA MPL and former Gauteng Provincial Leader)

- Brandon Topham (Gauteng DA Finance Chairperson)

- Glynnis Breytenbach (DA MP)

- Vasco Da Gama (Caucus Leader in Johannesburg Council)

- Rabelani Dagada (Councillor in Jouhannesburg)

- Given Mogane (Deputy Whip in Johannesburg Council)

- Dion George (DA MP & Federal Finance Chairperson)

- Fred Nel (Chair of DA MPL Network)

These endorsements follow DA Western Cape Leader Patricia de Lille’s letter of support for Mmusi Maimane released yesterday. 

There’s a groundswell of support inside and outside the party for Maimane to become the next Leader of the Democratic Alliance. DA delegates want a Leader that can win over voters who share the DA’s values, but do not yet vote for the party. This is what Maimane offers, which is why the party is swinging behind his candidacy.
