Department of Home Affairs conducts nationwide joint sting operations together with the South African Police Service (SAPS) Hawks Unit

Home Affairs Immigration Inspectorate in conjunction with the SAPS Hawks Unit, today, Wednesday 13 July 2011, conducted a series of simultaneous, nationwide raids on the operations of ZTE a Chinese IT company based in South Africa.

The raids were carried out at the premises of ZTE in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth which resulted in the detention of 18 Chinese nationals, 17 males and 1 female.

The operation was intended to crack down on the illegal facilitation of foreign nationals into South Africa using fraudulently acquired documents.

This is in line with Minister Dlamini Zuma's and governments overall commitment to stem the tide of illegal immigration into South Africa utilising fraudulent documents.

Government remains committed to ensuring we push back the frontiers of fraud and corruption and will ensure that those complicit in the facilitation of such activities are brought to justice.
