Short-listed submissions for Protection of State Information Bill Public Hearings

The National Council of Provinces' Ad Hoc Committee on the Protection of State Information Bill met today to shortlist written submissions that were forwarded to the committee on the bill and to adopt the programme. After thorough examination and deliberation among members of the committee, the committee agreed to shortlist 18 out of the 263 submissions to be invited and to elaborate orally on their written submissions at the public hearings.

8. Lizette Burger, Professional Affairs Manager: Law Society of South Africa
9. Adv Mike Pothier: South African Catholic Bishop's Conference Parliamentary Liaison Office
10. Kobus van Rooyen: South African Jewish Board of Deputies
11. Alison Tilley, Executive Director: Open Democracy Advice Centre
12. Mark Weinberg, Deputy Director: Alternative Information and Development Centre
13. David Lewis, Executive Director: Corruption Watch, Investigatory and Legal Service
14. W Aroun: National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa
15. Rev. Ivan Booth, Chairperson: Diakonia Council of Churches
16. William Bird, Director: Media Monitoring Africa

The committee further emphasises that the order of short-listed submissions is not a reflection of preference. The public hearings will be conducted from 27 March 2012 until 30 March 2012.
