Agang SA now formally registered with the IEC

Mamphela Ramphele says this means that donors can now receive tax exemption for their contributions to the party

Double celebration as Dr Ramphele marks the beginning of Women's Month and IEC finalises Agang SA's registration as a political party

Thursday, 01 August 2013: Agang SA, South Africa's newest independent political party, today announced that the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has issued it a certificate confirming the completion of its formal registration as a political party.

The news comes as party leader Dr Mamphela Ramphele arrived in Joburg to celebrate the beginning of Women's Month with Gauteng volunteers at Agang SA's national campaign headquarters in Braamfontein.

Dr Ramphele said: "Today we begin a month long celebration of the inspiration that the women of our country provide us all. It is a reminder of the love and respect that we must pay to our mothers, sisters, daughters and wives as we work together to restore the promise of freedom for all South Africans.

"On this day we are also celebrating an important milestone in the short history of Agang SA. We are delighted to confirm the completion of the registration of Agang SA as a fully-fledged political party. It means that our donors can receive tax exemption for their contributions to the party and support our mission of restoring the promise of freedom to all South Africans," said Dr Ramphele."

The certificate was issued by the IEC on Friday, 27 July. This comes after the party was informed on June 28 that its registration had been confirmed. However, there was a 30 days waiting period before the registration could be finalised, to allow anybody with an objection to appeal against the registration to the IEC.
