Ajay Sooklal should publicly disclose what he knows about Zuma and ANC arms deal payoffs - David Maynier

DA MP says he will request Judge Willie Seriti to subpoena former Thales' "fixer" over allegations in Sunday Times report

Seriti Commission should subpoena Ajay Sooklal to give evidence on alleged arms deal corruption

28 September 2014

I will request Judge Willie Seriti to subpoena Mr. Ajay Sooklal to give evidence before the Arms Procurement Commission.

Today, the Sunday Times reveals (see here) new details about inter alia

The alleged R500 000 bribe paid by Thales to President Jacob Zuma;

Thales bankrolling President Jacob Zuma's personal expenses; and

An alleged € 1million payment from Thales to a trust aligned to the ANC.

The new information is reportedly based on testimony given under oath in an arbitration hearing related to a fee dispute between Thales and a former employee, Mr. Ajay Sooklal.

Mr. Ajay Sooklal was reportedly employed by Thales as a lawyer and fixer for six years and may have personal knowledge of corruption that may prove useful to the Arms Procurement Commission.

I will, therefore, write to Judge Will Seriti requesting him to subpoena Mr Ajay Sooklal to give evidence before the Arms Procurement Commission.

Statement issued by David Maynier MP, DA Shadow Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, September 28 2014
