ANC Tlokwe councillors' conduct counter-revolutionary - COSATU NWest

Federation says removal of mayor the worst reactionary act since dawn of democracy

COSATU condemns conduct of ANC councillors in Tlokwe

The Congress of South African Trade Unions in the North West province has learned with shock and dismay about the counter-revolutionary conduct of the ANC councillors who connived with the opposition to remove the ANC mayor in Tlokwe.

For us as COSATU this is the worst reactionary act that we have ever seen since the dawn of democracy - that comrades who are deployed by the revolutionary alliance connive with the opposition to oust a comrade deployed by the ANC.

For us as COSATU this conduct cannot be pardoned as it undermines democracy and the entire electorate who have put confidence in those councillors to serve them under the banner of the ANC.

For us as COSATU these councillors deserve the harshest punishment available in the rules of the ANC, as this is for the second time.

While COSATU had cautioned the ANC in the past to not deal with the matter of councillors who had misconducted themselves in a factional way, this does not grant these councillors permission to disrespect the ANC.

COSATU would like to call on the ANC to go down and investigate the root cause of the conduct so that it can be prevented in the future. We call on our NEC deployees in the NW to establish an independent team to investigate the root of all this conduct of our ANC councillors and that of our ordinary members supporting DA mayor.

The ANC must be decisive in dealing with such conduct and be unapologetic to anyone who is putting the organization in disrepute as happened at ward14 in Tsawing during by election in 2013 when an ANC candidate was not registered due to factions in the ANC.

The same thing happened in Tlokwe in the 2011 election and we are sure that this is one of the challenges we are facing in that municipality.

We are calling on all our members in that municipality not to associate with any anti-revolutionary conduct, including not supporting an opposition party against our movement.

We all know who the DA is; we know the history of DA before 1994 and after, so our members must not be used to achieve its goals.

DA has never worked for African people. We must check what is taking place in the farms, where farm workers are treated very badly. Why do we think that they can improve our lives? They will use your support to improve their class and colour.
