ANC WCape takes action against rogue members

Songezo Mjongile says the party will not be intimidated or succumb to anarchy

ANC takes action against rogue elements

The ANC Western Cape is completing the registration of candidates for the upcoming municipal elections. By the end of today 387 ward candidates and 362 PR candidates will be submitted to the Independent Electoral Commission.

Branches that are not happy with the outcome of the list process to select candidates for the ANC should follow the known internal route and process to raise concerns.

The ANC expects all to uphold the disciplinary code of the ANC. The leadership is aware of rogue elements that are mobilising a revolt against the PEC. They are abusing concerns of members about outcome of selecting candidates. They are pretending as if they want to raise issues, whilst in reality they want to attack the standing and integrity of the ANC.

The conduct of the so-called concerned ANC members is not in keeping with the disciplined conduct of those who belong to our movement (see Times report). Their conduct for whatever reason is foreign to the ANC and has no place in it. The ANC has created structures through which all complaints and dissatisfaction gets channelled and processed.

Therefore we call on all ANC members to abide by the decisions of the organisation. The conduct of those rouge members who stormed the office has brought our organisation into disrepute; undermine its effectiveness, seriously interfered with the work of the organisation and its objectives. They have deliberately disrupted the orderly functioning of the organisation and are therefore clearly in breach of the code of conduct of the ANC.

Strong disciplinary action will be taken against all of those who stormed into the ANC offices and threatened leadership yesterday. The spirit and tradition of the ANC will be upheld to prevent any such actions and misbehaviour is unbecoming of our members.

The ANC will not be intimidated nor succumb to anarchy. We also call on the faceless leaders behind the rogue members who mustered, transported and fed these people to invade the offices, attack people and vandalise property, to come forward and reveal themselves. If not, the ANC will also take action against them.

The ANC will continue to serve the general good of our society and not narrow interest of individuals. As leaders we serve wherever we are deployed. Those responsible for these reprehensible acts will be prosecuted. The ANC has no place for such characters as their conduct excludes them from the ranks of those belonging to the ANC.

In line with upholding the disciplinary code of the ANC Mr. Maxon Thobile Ludidi, a serving councillor in the City of Cape Town, has been automatically expelled for defecting to another party.
