ANC won't be destroyed by the media - SADTU

Union questions why DA have been portrayed as real victors of local govt poll

Congratulations, ANC, for winning the local government elections!

The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) would like to thank the millions of voters who put their cross next to the ANC in the local government elections to ensure an overwhelming victory for the ANC.

We are heartened by the level of maturity displayed by political parties in the run up to the elections as parties campaigned without incidents of intimidation and violence. The campaign process also brought to an end the "no-go-areas" that have been with us for decades.

We are not surprised by the hypocrisy of the media - more especially print media who have done their best to portray the DA as real victors.

The facts remain; the ANC received an overwhelming 63% win while the DA behind as second best with 23%.

Such blatant support for the DA will not deter the masses of South Africa from continuing to support the ANC. The ANC was not made by the media and will not be destroyed by the media.

As part of the Alliance, SADTU will continue to work with the ANC to ensure the delivery of election promises and to further deepen democracy in this third tier of government.

Halala ANC, Halala!
